Baobab oil is obtained from the Adansonia digitata tree originating in Madagascar but can be found in mainland Africa and the western part of Australia. The Baobab trees with their striking appearance can live up to 5000 years old and bear fruits that are rich in fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants.

Research

The Baobab plant and its oil has been used to treat a variety of medical conditions in various parts of the world. The rich oil has been used in wound care therapy, for its moisturizing benefits and as a massage oil. The oil is extremely stable, with a shelf life of 2-5 years. Baobab oil is also high in beta-sitosterol, an antioxidant that is able to reduce DNA damage. The oil is also non-irritating and non-sensitizing, therefore it’s great for sensitive skin types.
